My Next Trip

30 Oct 2007

I am currently planning my next trip.  I haven’t yet decided where I will go, but I am hoping that I will be on an airplane the 1st week of June.

I have discovered that it is cheaper to travel to Europe than it is to travel to Hawaii .  I guess it cost to see paradise.

10 years ago I went to Hawaii which was the first time in my life to be on an airplane.  I was so nervous waiting to board that plane.  I tried to think nothing but happy thoughts.  From the time I loaded the plane to the time I exited the plane my hands were holding tight onto the arm rest of my seat.  Now I only hold on tightly when the plane takes off or lands.

Going to Hawaii was so much fun.  That was the first time I saw the ocean.  The first time I walked on a beach.  The first time I got up early just to see the sunrise.  How I loved being at the beach.  It was so peaceful, relaxing, and romantic.

My next trip must be near to the ocean.  I want to walk on a beach again, relaxing as the waves come to the shore.  I want to pick up seashells.  I dream of feeling the sand between my toes.  Yes my next trip must be very close to the ocean.

Finland

24 Oct 2007

My visit to Finland was short and sweet.  I enjoyed the shopping, I shopped until I dropped.  After shopping I enjoyed setting in the outside cafe.

I had never been to an outside cafe before, it was a real treat.  I enjoyed a nice cold drink and talked with the locals.  I was so happy that they spoke English.  I had to learn real quick about euros and the exchange rate with the almighty American dollar.

After my relaxing break from shopping I walked by the sea.  I so love walking by the sea.  It is so peaceful and a wonder all at the same time.

I plan to visit Finland again.

For me learning is fun and exciting, maybe that why I became a teacher.  I really enjoyed learning about a different culture.  I believe that it makes life interesting to know that we are all very different, but yet very much a like.

While I was visiting I learned about some of their traditions.  I learned about their holidays and how they celebrate them.  I also learned about some of their fairy tales, which are a lot like the ones I read when I was I child.

I have had several people ask me if I have trouble communicating with someone that speaks a different language.  It can at times be frustrating but in the end an understanding does happen.  I may have to point, gesture, and or find a computer hooked to the internet so that I can find a translation program, but in the end it is always worth it.

My second trip out side of the USA was when I was attending Kansas State University the summer before my senior year.  I was so happy when I was given the chance to travel to Russia.  I spent 2 weeks traveling in Russia learning their history and culture.

I got to spend a day at a summer camp while I was there.  The kids were so wonderful, they taught me a lot.  I also got a chance to visit a school in Russia and learn about their education programs.

The best part of the trip other than seeing the beautiful country and their historical buildings was the shopping.  I had never shopped in an open market before.  I had a blast shopping I came home with lots of gifts.

My First Trip

11 Oct 2007

My first trip out of the USA was when I was 10 years old.  My family traveled to Canada to visit my grandparents.  All I remember from that trip was how beautiful the mountains were.  The view from my grandmothers kitchen window was breath taking, I had never seen snow topped mountains before.

When you live in Kansas all you see is fields of wheat, corn, and sunflowers.  We have some trees in places but most of the land is farm land.  So to see the beauty of mountians, forest of trees, and beautiful flowers was a feeling of aww.

That trip gave me the travel bug.
